FreeBSD 5.3 in october

Just read on Slashdot that FreeBSD is nearing a code freeze. August 15th is the deadline which will be followed by the usual beta testing and a final release hoped for by October 1st. ZDNet interviewed the software engineer leading the release work, Scott Long, for the article. He says: 'The 5.3 release will be the first one where we see the real benefits of that. The multithreaded network stack will outperform everything we've done before, for running applications such as Apache or MySQL.'
There is a status report on the official FreeBSD site as ususal.

Happy Sysadmin Appreciation Day

Today is Sysadmin Appreciation Day. For all of you who always wondered why you can get email, connect to the server you need to or just log in to your workstation, you should appreciate what your sysadmin is doing all day to make your life more comfortable. For more information about Sysadmin Appreciation Day and our work just take a look here: "A special day, once a year, to acknowledge the worthiness and appreciation of the person occupying the role, especially as it is often this person who really keeps the wheels of your company turning."

Who remembers "The Love Bug"

As I just read at dTheatre there will be a new movie with Herbie in 2005: "This time around Herbie is getting mixed up in NASCAR, so who knows what antics might ensue." Read more here.

Some news

Yesterday I got my copy of O'Reilly's BSD Hacks. And as far as I can tell there are some neat hacks in it. So think I can recommend getting your own issue.

And while I did some updates on my FreeBSD box, I added some stuff in my CVSup script.

Nothing happened...?

Oh, maybe there were some interesting news in the last weeks, but I am very busy right now. Hope I will be around again soon, or even be able blogging some news or infos in short versions though.

Meanwhile take a look at Guinnes World Records or Cisco Systems, because their router will appear in the next Guinnes World Records Book for routing 1,2 Tbps.

Oh, btw, I just graded CCNA1. ;)
